Description |
- Must meet district Teacher Assistant (TA) requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Highly Qualified status as required by No Child Left Behind and the Individuals with Disabilities Act—Associate’s Degree or have scored at least a 4 in math or reading, and a 3 or better in writing on the WorkKeys test.
- Ability to monitor and manage student behavior - preference given to candidates who are a registered behavior technician (RBT) or who has completed the 40 hours of behavior technician training
- Ability to follow, implement and document all aspects of Positive Behavior Intervention Plan
- Ability to be flexible with varying student needs and schedule changes
- Ability to physically attend to student needs, including personal care, hygiene, toileting, etc.
- Demonstrated physical ability to lift and move students to support student needs including personal care, diapering, transfers to and from wheelchair, tube feeding, medication administration (oral, rectal and through gastric tube), augmentative communication, assistive technology devices and wheelchair mobility;
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability and willingness to perform recess monitoring, bus loading/unloading and lunchroom supervision, as necessary
- Effective communication skills with a variety of staff and students
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Ability to work with children in a caring, nurturing manner
- Demonstrates flexibility, teamwork and organization
- CPI trained preferred;
- Perform all other duties assigned by the classroom teachers, principal and/or Director of Special Education
